What is a cake topper / edible image?

A cake topper (also known as an edible image) is a photo printed on a thin layer of edible icing using food-grade edible inks. The pre-cut icing is attached to a backing sheet, which you just peel off when ready to use (see removal instructions below).

Are your products Vegan?

Yes! Both our icing sheets and our edible inks are all Vegan.

What can I put my cake topper on?

Cakes, biscuits, tray bakes - basically almost anything edible.

Do you use icing or rice paper?

At CakeMyFace we only use the best quality icing (never wafer or rice paper).

How do I store my cake topper?

Your topper will live happily inside it’s plastic bag in a cool, dark place for up to 4 weeks.

Please don’t put your topper in the fridge.

How do I apply my cake topper?

We used to have toppers which needed to go in the freezer for 30 seconds before removing them from their backing sheet. However now our toppers should simply peel off their backing sheet - making life that little bit easier for you!

However should the topper have been exposed to slightly warmer, humid conditions, then you can see our instruction video below on how to remove after placing your topper in the freezer for 30 seconds.

Apply your topper to either royal icing dabbed with a bit of luke warm water, or butter cream

Don't apply to anything too wet, or the colours are prone to bleeding

See our video here for more info on how to apply:

What sort of icing should I use?

Your cake topper will work with any icing but there are a couple of things to remember.

If you are placing your topper directly on to your iced cake make sure it isn’t too moist and ideally apply just before serving to reduce the risk of the inks bleeding.

For harder icing, such as a fondant or royal icing, the icing melds best when there is a bit of moisture on the surface so dab a tiny amount of water on the icing.

If you want to ensure your colours don’t bleed or you need to get your cake ready in advance you can roll out a fondant or sugarpaste base on which to apply your topper.  You can then place this on your finished cake.

How do I use the Designer Tool?

The designer tool works best on a PC or Mac.  Make sure you have the latest internet browser installed.  Google Chrome is the most suited browser to the tool.

Our tool is now mobile and tablet responsive (although our tech team are currently working on an even better version! Coming soon before next year, 2020).

We are making a quick video to show you how to use our tool. Until this is published, please drop us a line if you have any questions. Our team are always happy to call you back if needed, if easier to talk through on the phone.

Why isn't the Designer Tool working on my computer?

This may be down to the version of your internet browser. Have a check at http://whatbrowser.org/ to see if it's up to date. We strongly recommend our customers to have the most up to date internet browsers to make the most of the full functionality of the tool. Google Chrome in particular is the most suited browser for the tool.

What kind of images can I use?

Images that are in jpeg or png format on your computer.  If you need help with the image you want to use please drop us an email.

Bright, coloured images work best.

Do you have any pre made designs or templates I can add my photo to?

Yes! We have a selection of templates and designs available for you to simply upload your photo to - making life easier for those who don't know where to start with designing.

Go to the third tab called 'Pre Made Designs' on the Designer Tool. See below for a video:
